Can Construction & Demolition (C&D) Debris be Recycled?

YES! C&D materials that are most frequently recovered and recycled in Santa Barbara County are wood, concrete, asphalt, and metal. Gypsum wallboard, carpet, and carpet padding are also being processed and recycled in the area.

Where Can I Take My C&D Debris?

In the South County, the majority of the C&D debris processing and recycling takes place at MarBorg Industries, located at 136 North Quarantina Street in Santa Barbara. C&D debris is also processed and recycled at the South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, located at 4430 Calle Real in Santa Barbara. In the North County, C&D debris is processed and recycled on a small scale by Bedford Enterprises and Atlas Performance Industries. To find additional firms that process C & D debris, please see the Construction and Demolition Debris category in the Directory of Materials section of the Recycling Resource Guide.

What is C&D Debris?

Construction & Demolition (C&D) debris is any waste from construction, remodeling, repair, cleanup, or demolition activities. C&D debris includes asphalt, concrete, brick, lumber, gypsum wallboard (drywall), cardboard and other packaging, roofing material, ceramic tile, carpeting, plastic pipe and steel. C&D debris is often mixed with rock, soil, tree stumps, and other vegetative matter from land clearing and landscaping for construction or land development activities.
