Ash Clean-up Guidelines

When it's safe to do so, please remember the three C's when preparing to clean up ash at your home or business: Control, Contain, and Capture. Once contained, ash can be put in plastic bags and then placed in trash receptacles.


Normal Trash Collection Schedule Resumes December 14

Normal residential and commercial solid waste collection services will resume for South Coast communities beginning tomorrow, December 14, 2017 with the exception of the areas of the County currently in mandatory evacuation zones. Solid waste facilities will be open as well.


Facility Closures and Trash Service Delays Due to Thomas Fire

The County's South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, as well as MarBorg's transfer station in Santa Barbara, will be closed on Friday, December 8 due to hazardous air quality resulting from the Thomas Fire. Trash and recycling service on the South Coast will also be delayed by a day.

Hazardous Waste Center Closed Easter Sunday

The Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center will be closed this Sunday, April 16 in observance of the Easter holiday. The Center will resume operations on Friday, April 21 for businesses (appointment required) and Saturday, April 22 for households (no appointment needed).


Santa Barbara Police Department Installs New Drug Disposal Bin


South Coast residents now have another way to safely dispose of their unwanted household medications. The drop-box is located in the Police Department lobby at 215 E. Figueroa Street in downtown Santa Barbara.


County Passes Safe Med Disposal Ordinance


On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors approved the second reading of the County's Safe Medication Disposal EPR Ordinance, which will require drug producers to design, implement, and fund a convenient collection and disposal program for unwanted medications sold in the county.
