Join Us In Santa Ynez This Sunday

Calling all of our Santa Ynez Valley neighbors: On Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the County will collect all types of common household hazardous waste and electronics. Stop by the Santa Ynez Valley Recycling and Transfer Station with items like used motor oil, paint, batteries, and more.


Resource Recovery Office Green Biz Certified


The Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division's office in downtown Santa Barbara was recently certified as an official Green Business through the Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County. The program recognizes businesses that go above and beyond to protect, preserve, and improve the environment.


Regional Waste Services Summary Now Available

Interested in learning more about the services provided by the County's Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division? Check out our latest Regional Community Solid Waste Management Services Summary for Fiscal Year 2011/12. The Summary includes participation figures and waste collection data for all of the Division's community programs.


New Retail-Based Paint Collection Program


Now when you go to buy new paint, you may be able to bring your old paint back to the same location. In October 2012 seven paint retailers in Santa Barbara County began participating in a new collection program operated by the industry group PaintCare. Residents, as well as qualifying businesses, are able to use the drop-off sites at no charge.


America Recycles Day Every Day!


In celebration of America Recycles Day, bring your old, unwanted electronics to one of the County's free and convenient drop-off sites. Items like TVs, computers, DVD players, stereos, and cell phones can be recycled at no charge at any of the County's Recycling and Transfer Stations.


Recycle Your Christmas Tree!

If you're ready to say farewell to your Christmas tree, please prepare it for recycling by removing all ornaments, tinsel, and stands and make sure any trees over six feet are cut in half. Depending on where you live, your recycling options will vary.


Resource Recovery Admin Office Closed During Holidays

The admin office of the County's Resource Recovery & Waste Management Division will be closed from December 24 through January 1 as part of the County's furlough. The County's Recycling and Transfer Stations and Tajiguas Landfill will remain open, with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year's Day.


December Holiday Closures for Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center

The Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center, located on the UCSB campus, will be closed December 21-23 and December 28-30 for the Christmas and New Years holidays.

Resource Recovery Project Begins Environmental Review

On November 13 the County Board of Supervisors approved private consulting contracts that formally begin the environmental review of the regional Resource Recovery Project. The proposed project will increase recycling, provide compost, generate green energy, and reduce future greenhouse gas emissions related to the management of the communities' solid waste.
