Important Info Are There Any Discounts for Recyclable Items?
YES! Reduced prices have been established by public and private recycling entities throughout Santa Barbara County.
At the South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, located at 4430 Calle Real in Santa Barbara, it costs $71 per ton to dispose of trash. However, if you have nothing but clean metal items in your load, you pay only $22 per ton. Similarly, if you bring in a load of nothing but yard waste (grass clippings, tree prunings, leaves, etc.), you pay only $28 per ton. Also, if you have a load of clean wood waste, with no paint or attached hardware, you pay only $35 per ton. Finally, most large appliances without freon can be disposed of for free at the South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station. There is a $10 fee to dispose of appliances with freon, however.
Similarly, at the Santa Ynez Valley Recycling and Transfer Station, located at 4004 Foxen Canyon Road in Los Olivos, it costs $52.50 per ton to dispose of trash. To dispose of a load of clean yard waste or a load of clean wood waste, you pay only $28 per ton. For loads containing only clean metal and for appliances, this facility has the same rates as the South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station.
As mentioned above, there are a number of private companies throughout the county that accept recyclable materials at reduced rates as well. A number of these businesses can be found on the Directory of Materials List.
Remember, as a business, school or resident, recycling and greenwaste services are considerably less expensive than trash service, because you dont have to pay for disposal. The materials that are collected through these services are sent to sorting facilities that sell them to manufacturers adding market value to what was once trash!
Yes, indeed! Because recyclables have value, there are price discounts for many recyclable materials.
